Despite its chichi, tony edge, the idyllic, walkable town of Carmel-By-The-Sea is a fairytale village set on the windswept sea. Stunning, moody California/Monterey cypress trees and vivid flowers line the rocky coast, while the Hobbit-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland architecture defines Carmel’s unique look. Like much of California, it’s gorgeous, but the coastline around Carmel is vastly enchanting, from its iconic Monterey cypress trees to bursts of colorful flowers along the rocks. Hikes through nearby Point Lobos State Natural Preserve are epic.

Over the years, I’ve written guides to this seaside town and nearby Monterey and Carmel Valley. There has never been a better time to dine here. Not because there are more restaurants in the tiny town, but because what is there is top-notch, particularly two restaurants that exemplify “destination-worthy.”
