Saluhall — which is, quite literally, Swedish for “food hall” — was opened by the new downtown IKEA in April 2024, the first Saluhall in North America. Now, the two-story, 23,000 square foot food hall on Market Street just turned one year old. They’re celebrating with a daily happy hour all May (4-6pm with $6 beers, $5 house wine, $7 Brut and Brut Rosé), ongoing cooking classes and events like Trivia Night and Drag Bingo Brunch (plus other Pride events all June).

If you haven’t been yet, the one year mark is a good time to go: not only can everyone order what they want and still eat together, but you can support a business that is giving local chefs and food entrepreneurs a platform. Local chefs are showcased with flair in a striking, massive space that is bravely reviving a sad block of Market, though it's conveniently across from the Warfield for pre-concert meals. Even better, they’re hiring disadvantaged populations, half their employees, via the SF Office of Economic & Workforce Development (OEWD). From security to management, their team is sweet and helpful. And, dare I say, one vendor serves one of the best burgers I’ve had in years.
